We have arrived
I am currently in Niagara-on-the-Lake which is about 1hr 30min from Toronto with the Senior Women's Australian Squash Team.
We arrived the night of Wednesday the 26th, the team has spent the past 4 days training, getting a little familiar to the courts and getting over jet lag.
The facilities here at White Oaks Resort & Spa are outstanding and the Canadian people are very accommodating and friendly. It is the best facilities I've every played at.
The Welcoming Ceremony is on tomorrow night and we start playing on Monday. Please check in regularly to read my updates and see latest photos of the event. For more details on the Women's World Team Championships click here...
Today is day one of the Women's World Team Championships. The first day is always so exciting with so many emotions going on nerves, anxious, exited, pumped up! We played Spain this morning Australia winning 3 rubbers to 0. The order of play was 2,1,3 I was on first up against Christina Gomes I feel I played ok winning 3-0, Second on was Rachael Grinham against Xisala Aranda Rach winning 3-1 and 3rd on was Christine Nunn against Marina De Juan, Christine being too strong winning 3-1. It was Christine's first senior performance playing for Australia today and I'd like to say she took it in her stride and played really well.
Tomorrow we have a tough day with 2 of our pool rounds Germany in the morning and Wales in the afternoon. So stay tuned for tomorrows update. We will be streamed live tomorrow for both of our pool matches to watch us play click this link http://www.sportscanada.tv/squashcanada/
What an incredible, motivating, inspiring, tough day yesterday was. We played 2 of our pool matches today Germany in the morning on the Glass court and team Wales in the evening. Both tough teams and competitors to play. Having to stay so focused and be ready to go once I stepped on court, to give it my all and to lift and perform at my very best for Australia.
Our evening matches against Team Wales was a crucial line up for us as it could of went either way. I started the night off playing first. I have never played Deon before and thought we were going to be very evenly matched. It was such an enjoyable match and I was very happy with my performance winning 3-1. Rachael was 2nd on trailing 2 games to love but with an awesome comeback winning the match 3-2 to give us the 2-0 win over Wales. Christine was 3rd on and once she blew out some nerves she was too steady winning 3-1. Great effort team Australia I am so proud and ecstatic to be apart of this team.
We've got England today playing at 2:30pm Canada time. To watch the matches go to http://sportscanada.tv/squashcanada/index.php/broadcast-
TODAYS QUARTERFINAL LINE UP AGAINST EGYPT AT WOMEN'S WORLD TEAM CHAMPS
Aust lost to EGYPT 3/0
Today was quarter finals day and Egypt proved too strong taking the first two matches to claim a semi final spot.
I was first on against Nour El Sherbini and Nour was just too strong today with such beautiful touch at the front of the court. I went down 3 games to 0.
Rachel Grinham followed on playing 2nd against Raneem El Welily, it was a very entertaining match with some great shots played by both players but Raneem got up beating Rachel 3/1.
Sarah Cardwell lost 2/0 in the dead rubber.
Tomorrow we are up against France.
I'd like to thank everyone back home for all the continuous support received by all. The team is loving all the messages on social media. xx
AUSTRALIA FINISHED 7TH
We finished up at 7th position overall so we are all happy to have held our seeding going into the event seeded 7th. It was an amazing experience being involved in such a prestigious event once again and putting the Green and Gold uniform on. The venue at the White Oaks Resort and Spa was top notch and having the accommodation connected to the squash venue mad things so much easier and convenient. Well done Canada on running such a superior event.
